Gordon B. Hinckley

While I was at a youth fireside tonight, our Bishop received a phone call informing him that our prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley had passed away. I have been in tears all night. It's that feeling where you know you shouldn't really be sad (he is with his sweet wife), but you just can't help it. He has been our prophet for nearly 13 years now. Honestly, it feels like 20. He has worked tirelessly and done so much for the church in his lifetime--it seems like several lifetimes crammed into one. I have so much love and admiration for this great man. I have learned from him what it means to serve the Lord with all your heart, might, mind, and strength...with a sense of humor! I couldn't begin to list the many life-altering lessons I have learned through his words--the Lord's words. I know he was truly a prophet of God.

A couple of months ago, I taught a lesson in church about gratitude, and encouraged the young women I work with to start a gratitude journal. Well, after a while, the guilt of not having started my own gratitude journal started to eat at me. So when I came across the blog of a good friend of mine, Shelby, I knew I needed to follow her example (and my own advice). She lists 5 things every day that she's grateful for. I thought I'd steal her idea...with a twist. They say good things come in threes, so I'm going to start sharing my top 3 "good things" for the day. I figure today is a really good day to start, so...

good things...

1. a prophet of God
2. the Gospel of Jesus Christ
3. the peace that truth brings
