Don't get me wrong--I'm not ridiculous--I can change a poopy diaper...as long as it's contained and I have PLENTY of wipes to keep me from making direct contact. But once it leaves the confines of the diaper--my gag reflex kicks into high gear. I don't know why. If I must, I can handle blood, vomit, urine, etc....but poop just gets to me.
So, a couple of days ago, I read a post from my friend's blog regarding a rather unpleasant poop experience she had with her twin girls. As I finished reading, I remember thinking how grateful I was that I wasn't her. "Man wouldn't that be awful?!"
As fate would have it, I am now the proud owner of a first hand answer to that question...yes, yes, and just to be clear...YES! My sweet little Eden slipped away while I was on the phone tonight, and decided to explore the exciting world of poop art.
She had obviously pooped a little in her panties...they were in the garbage. She was standing in my bathroom, pantiless. The toilet was full of poop and toilet paper, the toilet seat (every inch of it) was covered...then the walls, followed by the floor. She must of then decided that body art would be just as fun as finger painting, because it was everywhere...her tummy, arms, legs, feet, FACE...and, of course, her hands. Luckily, I caught her before she made it to her hair!
I threw her (almost literally) into the tub and told her not to move. She must of known by the look on my face that I was serious, because she didn't move a muscle. As I was cleaning...gagging...cleaning...gagging...Ammon was in his highchair, screaming. I washed my hands, ran into the kitchen, gave him a little fruit cup, and returned to my cleaning...gagging...cleaning. Then I cleaned the poop off Eden--and let me assure you, this was no easy task. That stuff was caked on! (More gagging.) Once she was clean, I rinsed out the tub, scoured it, went to rescue Ammon (who was now covered in a sticky smashed pear/juice concoction), threw him into the tub with Eden, and began to clean Eden's masterpiece while they played in the water.
At this point, I was grateful I never had the chance to actually eat my dinner, or I would have lost it. Is that the silver lining? Has my life gotten so crazy that the silver lining is that I didn't actually puke while cleaning up my 3-year-old's "poop art" because there was nothing in my stomach due to the fact that I was too busy to eat dinner?!
At the end of the day, it's amazing how quick I am to forget the poop on the walls when Eden open's her little eyes, just as she's about to fall asleep, and says "I love you, Mommy"...then closes them again, wraps her little arm around my neck, and drifts into dreamland.

I am not going to curse myself so I will just say that I am so sorry! That sounds awful! What a sweetie Eden is! It is amazing to me how crazy they can cause you to feel and then turn around and melt your heart.
Thanks for sharing stuff like this. It is good to know that I am not the only mom who goes through these things.
Wow, I don't envy that. I'm glad you got it cleaned up okay. I don't do poop too well, luckily I never had to experience that first hand. Batgirl does not like poop either. :)
oh you poop, I mean poor thing. I am dreading those days- Syd never did it but, I think Ali could very easily become an artist!Hope all is well. Take Care
Wish I could have been there...I love that kind of stuff. Love you!

Love Mom Jones
Oh Susie,
You just brought back to mind a most horrifying experience - same thing - it was Eddy when he was about the same age only thing was, it was at a friends house in their main bathroom. It was even on the ceiling because he was trying to "shake" it off. Poor Carrie, she was super OCD about cleanliness and even though I apologized and cleaned, she actually had it "cleaned" by a service.
Love ya! and Eden too!
XOXO
I'm sorry!...you posted this at 1:49 AM?!
So, Sue. I just now brought myself to read your blog. I cried. Not about the poop, but about what a good man Justin is. I hope you're all doing well. I sure think about you guys A LOT and I hope you're all doing well. I've been reading Abbie's blog. She is a smart kid. I'm pretty sure she's smarter than me. Her blog looks a thousand times better than mine. I still haven't read Justin's blog---I don't think I can do that quite yet, but I'll let you know when I do. Love you and miss you! Karen Slovensky
It was so good to talk to you today. I hope you had a great time on your family trip. I will give you the update on the ebay monster soon. I love the shelf with the books on it, I just saw it next to the comment window- cute! Take care
Yikes! Sue, your story makes me nervous. I thought that Adam successfully made it past those years of potential poop artwork. But you mean to tell me that it still could still happen, even at age 3?! And now I've probably jinxed myself by admitting that. I'll let you know when it happens to us now. ;)
Sue, hey it Gina DeMarco! Oh, about Thomas and Michael did this. But Unfortunately, it was a phase that lasted 2 or 3 months of doing this just about the time I would get comfortable that they would not do it again!!! They would get it in the carpet, walls, bedding, books toys, coffee table. If you can think of it that is where they got it. The last time they did it I called Jason crying and told that if he wanted an unharmed family when he got home, he had to come home now! Thankfuly, I was able to pull together by the time he got homee. I learned during this period just how much I really love my children. It doesn't matter how many things they do to drive us crazy, we will still come back for more!!! We finally have a blog. I set it up last Friday. Come see us at http://shhstorytime.blogspot.com
Oh, Sue. You deserve a medal for making it through that ordeal- Adding Ammons screaming in the background just makes me ache for you. I don't think there could be a worse scenario. One day at a time, right? Thank goodness for bedtimes. You are a champ!
Sue, you are such a good mom. I would have throw Austin out into the backyard and took the hose to him! And I'm not sure I would have found any silver lining! I hope you don't have anymore poop experiences! Miss you!!
Sounds like the Poo Picasso strikes again!
sue, i think i read somewhere that when kids do that it's a sign of brilliance.
or they just like to play with poop.
or, ok...
i don't think this is making you feel better. i am really sorry about the poop mess. hope you are having fun at your reunion!
oh duh, i forgot to tell you...
you've been tagged!
go to my blog entry 07.26.08 for further instructions.
So sorry Sue! I'd have to agree - poop is worse than vomit. I'll never forget cleaning up Becca's trail of diarrhea from her bedroom to ours.
I had a hard time not laughing through this whole post! I'm so sorry, I don't do poop either.
I'm super glad that didn't happen while I was out there (:
Sorry Sue, but we just laughed and laughed. Spence says, "It sounds like you had a poopy day." And Aimee says, she just changed her mind about wanting her future daughters to be just like Eden. Love you all! Love, Jannie
I know you are busy hanging out as a fam, but we miss your posts!!! You are so uplifting and we miss you guys!
Hi Sue, Justin's cousin Andrew here (Linda's sister Julie's son)
Glad to find your blog, and such an interesting entry. Reminds me of the funniest blog entry on poop I've read (from my wife's cousin)

Anyways, I keep a blog at the following address....

Sue,
I'm so sorry! I couldn't even laugh. The subject is just way to close to home. I keep thinking that it is all a phase that will hopefully soon end with potty training. I see that that is not necessarily the case. All I can say is... (pulling a phrase from our D.C. days) Mercy me!
