Well, we broke the news to the girls tonight that Daddy was moving away for a little while to go work with some people who really need his help. Ellie was sad for about 15 seconds (which was a pleasant surprise), Eden had no idea what we were talking about, and Abbie lost it for the rest of the night. She might look like a Jones, but she definitely inherited some of my genes...she was a heap of tears. It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen (I'm sure there are more to come). She kept asking Justin if he told them that he didn't want to go. Then she asked if they had "twisters" in Afghanistan, and if there's a lot of "fighting" there. We assured her that she doesn't have to worry about twisters or fighting. She spent the rest of the night curled up in Daddy's arms saying over and over, "I don't want Daddy to go." Man...there's just nothing easy about this! A little girl should just never have to miss her daddy. I think we're going to see a lot of tears over the next year & a half.
On a lighter note, ever since we found out Justin was deploying, our list of things to do before he goes just keeps getting longer and longer. One of the things on the top of the list is potty training Eden. So...needless to say, we were overjoyed tonight when she came running out of the bathroom shouting "I did it!" I've never posted a home video before, so I hope this works. (Be sure to pause the music before you watch the video.)
good things...
1. she did it!
2. little girls who love their daddy
3. daddy coming home at the end of a loooong day

Oh, the wonderful world of toilet-training. I have decided that the second child is easier than the first. Either that or girls are easier than boys. But either way it's not something I enjoy.
Good for her and for you!
I cannot belive how big Eden is. Boy does time fly!
What a cute video! It's so fun to see Eden talking so much.
Aw, that breaks my heart! For sure the toughest part of Jim's deployment was knowing how much his little kids would miss him and how much HE would miss (& miss out on) them. Hope you've got some good resourses there. I know this base will make a life-size stand up of your "hero" and a previous one did photo-personalized pillowcases. Be sure to tape record Daddy telling/reading stories! And one thing we've done both times Jim's been gone was go to build-a-bear and Jim and I recorded a message for the kids to hug & hear. ...since you asked...;) good luck!
K, I'm totally crying right now. I can't imagine having to tell our girls that their dad will be gone for a little while and watching their hearts break. There is just something about dads and their daughters. You guys are super duper! Our prayers are with you as you prepare for Justin's deployment!
Way to go Eden! She is growing up so fast! Potty training, in my opinion, can be one of the worst parts of parenting small children. I am glad Eden is catching on so well!
