Fun in the Sun

Well, we took a 5-day weekend and headed for sunny California! As we got off our old exit, it felt as if we had just been gone on a really loooong vacation, and were coming home. The weather, the shopping, the friends, the family, the beach...all good for the soul!

On Friday, we took the kids to Sea World. There was hardly anyone there, and the weather was perfect. Best of all, we've been several times, so we could take our time and just hit the good stuff (although, I never did get my funnel cake...due to multiple child meltdowns). Everyone had a great time, despite some scary "don't make me touch the dolphin" moments. That night we had pizza with Jon & Dawn and our good friends, Nate & Amy, and their families. It was great catching up! It was amazing watching the kidos (all 12 of them!) pick up exactly where they left off.

Saturday, we went to the beach with Jon & Dawn's family. I thought we were doing a 'picnic and walk along the beach' kind of thing (hello...it's the middle of February), but the girls insisted on borrowing swimsuits from their cousins "just in case". Needless to say, the girls ended up in the water, and Ammon just spent the day eating sand. (Apparently, it takes several days for this kind of diet to clear your system.) It was so warm...and beautiful...and calming (the sound of the ocean is serious therapy for me). This whole weekend made me very homesick for the coast!

Sunday, we went to our old ward and saw all our friends there. It was so, so good to see everyone. The girls were in heaven! At the end of the day, Abbie told me she liked California the best. I had a hard time disagreeing with her.

Monday, Justin (seriously racking up the brownie points) watched all the kids while Dawn & I
snuck away to Old Town for a few hours. We shopped (although, Dawn somehow managed to come home with nothing...trying to make me look bad :), walked, talked, and had incredible, 'too big to fit your mouth around' burgers at a cute little outdoor burger joint. It was great! I could go for that every weekend. That night we had a scavenger hunt at Target for family home evening, then came home, put the kids to bed, and ordered Chinese take-out (something hard to come by in our small town). After dinner, we chatted until we all passed out on the couch.

Wow...sorry for the travel log, but we had so much fun--I didn't
want to leave anything out!

So here I am at home (it's been raining for days), missing the sun.

good things...

1. sunshine
2. good friends/family
3. sandy diapers :)

I have been patiently awaiting your travel post and it was worth the wait! My kids were looking at it with me and they wanted to know why the Jones' do all of the fun things!

I agree, why do the Jones' do all the fun things?! I would love some sun, a beach, and some girl time shopping. Well it was 36 degrees here today which was 30 degrees warmer than it was a few days ago. Almost as good as the beach!!

Hen, I miss you. I love your blog. I am sick on IV's and all (yes another little invader on the way) so looking at your blog really makes my day, which is usually very miserable and depressing. Gorgeous family, gorgeous Sue.
I love you

Glad you had a great trip. I love the pic of the girls looking at the whale in the tank. CA does make other areas pale. But hey - how would you know if you didn't try it somewhere else!

I was released last week and made the primary music chorister - what do you think about that?!?!? :)

Sue, you take such great pictures! We miss you and your family. Seriously, would you ever be brave enough to come visit us? We promise to make it WELL worth your while (and with 4 kids, I realize that's saying a lot;)... HEY, bring Mom and it can be a party! She needs to see more of Wisconsin than just the Jelly Belly factory.
