Calling all med wives...

...or any other woman with useful information.

ATTENTION ALL MEN: The following entry may prove to be boring and/or embarrassing, so feel free to skip it. Having said that...
I know you'll read on as curiosity gets the best of you.
So, enjoy this small glimpse into a woman's world!

Let's start with a little background info. When Justin was in med school, I had a great group of friends (the med wives). We got together once a month for what started as a book group. Soon, we began alternating book group/girls' night every other month. Eventually, it just became girls' night out. Sometimes there was a theme for the evening, but regardless, it always turned into a much needed forum to vent, gather helpful info., seek advice, or ask questions you would never ask your mother...or husband...or doctor...or husband who IS a doctor! These evenings where the highlight of my month and would always stretch into the wee hours of the morning. Our husbands were always amazed that we had that much to talk about. The truth is, if it weren't for the harsh reality of knowing our kids would be waking us up bright and early, we could have (and would have) stayed all night.

After graduation, we all went our separate ways, and although we still keep in touch, I really miss our monthly girls' night.

So, with all that in mind, I have a question. My whole life I've had serious issues with shaving my legs. I've tried every razor, shaver, cream, gel, etc. on the planet, and it doesn't seem to matter...I ALWAYS get really bad razor burn. I'm finally at the point where I need to either try something different or go for the natural (as in, hairy) look. I'm hoping to avoid the later. So this brings me to waxing. My questions are--who's done it...how expensive is it...how long does it last...and how painful is it? I've thought about getting a "do it yourself" kind of kit, but I'm too wimpy. If someone's going to inflict pain on me, it needs to be a professional.

There it is, all you women of wisdom. I'm ready to gather your pearls and learn from your experience. Feel free to send me an email, or leave a comment here, but please DO NOT remain silent. We have an obligation as members of the greater sex to aid each other in times of need. So bring it on!

good things...

1. good friends
2. being a woman
3. knowing my husband would still love me with hairy legs

Sorry Susie,
Being an Indian woman I have never had to shave my legs (much to my girls envy). My legs are "wax free" of any hair. And what little does grow in my arm pits, I just pull out with my fingers. Eddy hated as a teen that all his friends were shaving and he had no facial hair to speak of. He shaved everyday as a missionary but really was only doing it because it was a mission rule.
We really are a "chosen" people.
Love ya anyway..........

From Mom Jones:

I think hairy is nice...at least for the next 15 months.

One of my friends is big into waxing. I know that it can get pretty pricey and you have to let the hair grow out a bit before you wax. From what I hear, once you try it you will never want to shave again. I have also heard that if you are going to do-it-yourself, you need to get really high quality stuff. I tried waxing Travis' back and I thought that he was going to die. I also have another friend that did the laser removal. It was pricey and a bit painful but now she never has to worry about shaving again. Isn't your husband a doctor? Go for the laser removal!

It just sounds too painful. but, maybe it would be the answer. The laser sounds the best, but I am too cheap. have a great day.

Sorry, no help on the leg business!
I miss the fun med wives group too. Do you, or any former med wives have any idea what the Nelsons are up to?
Just email me if you want, calljul@gmail.com
